Elon Musk gave a press conference to walk people through the multitude of features this electric SUV has. The biggest windshield in production? Check. As fast as a Porsche? Yep. Seats 7? Uh huh. Doors that are named after a predatory bird? You got it.
Near the Tesla factory in Fremont, CA Musk addressed reporters to unveil all the features of the upcoming car. The crowed was going bonkers, taking constant pictures of the car and hanging on Musk’s every word.
Musk displayed the car’s capabilities when it comes to air filtration, but that’s not exactly the coolest way to put it. So he introduced the “bioweapon defense mode,” which will clean almost all harmful pollutants out of the air.
Also, the doors sense when you are walking up to the car, automatically open up for you, and then close once you get in. Musk called it “an automatic chauffeur.” It’s just one of the many touches Tesla employs to make anyone say “wow” when they see or hear anything about this vehicle.
The Model X even has a “ludicrous mode”, which enables the X to go from 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. That’s as fast as Porsche 911 Turbo, except it’s a friggin’ electric SUV.
The gigantic windshield merges a traditional windshield with a huge sunroof for one, all-encompassing piece of glass, that provides a sense of being entirely enveloped by the car.
The falcon wing rear doors are equipped with a variety of specialized hinges and sensors that allow them to open even in tight parking lots.
The Verge took the car out for a test drive, and it is really a thing of beauty to witness the X tearing up the road.
