Today National Margarita Day. We’re not sure why they chose a Sunday, but who are we to argue. The popular drink was allegedly created by a bartender named Don Carlos Orozco in 1941. He made a drink with equal parts of tequila, Damiana and lime and served it over ice in a salt-rimmed glass. The drink was named for a beautiful customer named “Margarita,” that frequented the Ensenada bar.
Over the years the Margarita has become one of the most popular cocktails, accounting for 17.6% of the restaurant specialty cocktail menu. Some prefer it frozen, others over ice, but one thing is for sure the Margarita is here to stay.
